Monferrato, the heart of Piedmont, is a place full of history, charm and good taste. A fairytale landscape of villages nestling in hills dotted with vineyards, with horizons marked by the profiles of old parish churches, castles and gentle slopes. Its territory, which is almost exclusively made up of hills, is mainly contained within the provinces of Alessandria and Asti and stretches to the south starting from the hydrographic right bank of the Po up to the foot of the Ligurian Apennines on the border with the Province of Genoa and the Province of Savona. It also shares borders with other historical geographical regions of Piedmont that belong to the Province of Cuneo, that is, Langhe and Roero.
It is one of Italy’s best known wine regions, especially as far as red wines are concerned. The dry continental climate and the particular hydrogeological configuration of the terrain are favourable for growing vines; an activity that is widespread throughout the territory, meaning that wine is not only an element of financial wealth for the entire region but is also, and above all, a true symbol of Monferrato’s culture and tradition.
